Art Gate - AIA-VT Design Competition 2005
"Art Gate" is based on the premise that there is a very brief window in which an architect can be irrationally innovative and imagine concepts free from functional constraints. The competition program and concept is based in part on existing a City of Burlington project to construct a commuter parking structure for 600 cars on 2.9 acres of land just outside of downtown, in Burlington's South End. |
Competition Goals • Inspire creative thinking in the architectural community by making imagination, vision and innovation the design standard. • Give all individual architects in Vermont an opportunity to freely express themselves and their personal design philosophy. • Raise the level of consciousness and awareness of the general public regarding creativity in design. • Focus attention on necessity and power of strong design concepts in problem solving activities. |
